Round Three Playoff Recap: Tahoe Icemen vs Idaho Icecats at Idaho

The Tahoe Icemen were eliminated from round three in game two of a best-of-three series by the Idaho Icecats.

Friday 3/30/18   6 – 4 Idaho IceCats

Tahoe went goal for goal with the IceCats on Friday through the second period.  The score was tied 1 – 1 at the end of the first, and 3 – 3 at the end of the second.  The IceCats managed to pull away with three goals in the third, and Tahoe’s lone third period goal wasn’t enough to make it through regulation with the win.  The game winner went to Blake Nelson (10) at 16:02 in the third.  Penalties were even and low with the Icemen at 10 minutes, the IceCats at 11 minutes including a 5-minute major for fighting.  Tahoe goalie Max Haselbacher (30) made 29 saves on 35 shots.  Idaho IceCats’ goaltender Jacob Hough (30) allowed 4 goals on only 19 shots.

Saturday 3/31/18   6 – 2 Idaho IceCats

The Icemen couldn’t get Friday’s momentum going on Saturday.  Though there were more shots from Tahoe, none of them seemed to connect with the back of the net.  The game winner went to Idaho’s Russell Harren (27) at 5:47 in the second period.  Things were a bit chippier Saturday and the IceCats took 14 minutes in penalties, the Icemen with 21 minutes in penalties including a 5-minute major in the third on Mitch Hunt (20) for elbowing.  IceCats’ goaltender Jacob Hough (30) allowed 2 goals on 24 shots.  Icemen goalie Max Haselbacher (30) made 34 saves for Tahoe before yielding the net in the third to Wade Conlan (1) to allow him to finish his last Junior-level game between the pipes.  This was the last game for Wade Conlan (1), Sergei Grebenshchikov (3), Paul Frys (14), and Captain Phil Heisse (22) who age out of WSHL this year.

The 2018/19 season should begin in September of this year, and there will be updates as available of returning players and staff.  See you next season.
